Switching
Question
Answer

What is an MPRN and why do I need it?

Your Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) is a unique identification number assigned to your house. It is referred to as "M" on the right hand corner of your electricity bill. We need your MPRN to ensure we transfer the correct account as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Can I get supplied by Airtricity?

Yes you can. We supply greener, cheaper electricity to homes and businesses across the Republic of Ireland. We also supply gas to the large industrial market and we'll be supplying gas to homes and businesses soon.

Do I have to contact my current Supplier?

No, we’ll let your current supplier know. We’ll contact you as soon as you have transferred to us. Around the same time you should receive your final bill from your current supplier.

Am I locked into a contract?

There's no minimum contract period. If you are not completely satisfied you may switch back to your current supplier at any time.

Will I still receive my Social Welfare Allowance?

Don’t worry; you'll still receive your full allowance. The Department of Social and Family Affairs will pay your allowance directly into your nominated bank, building society or post office account. You don't have to do anything - we'll let them know you've switched to us. They will then contact you to set up your monthly payment.

Do I need a new meter/rewiring?

Switching is simple and hassle free. You don't have to make any changes to your house. We use the same wires and meters - the only change is you'll be using cheaper, greener electricity.

Will there be any disruption to my supply when I switch, or if the wind doesn't blow?

There will be no disruption to your supply and no, your lights will NOT go out because there's no wind! All of our power is placed on the National Grid, and what you use is taken from the National Grid, and will continue that way. Our customers include hospitals, and just like you they cannot take any risks with their electricity supply. You don't need a new meter or have to carry out any changes to your home either.

Can I switch if I rent the premises?

You don't have to own the premises to switch to Airtricity. You are not locked into a fixed contract and as there is no rewiring and you don't need a new meter the premises will not be affected - the only difference is you will be using cheaper, greener electricity.
